Personal Profile

I am a second generation Chiropractor, which means my father practiced  chiropractic. He practiced for 43 years and retired in 1994. I was born in 1954 and raised in Toccoa. I graduated from the University of Georgia  in 1976. Three years later, I enrolled in Life Chiropractic University  in Marietta, GA. In 1982 I graduated and began practice in June.

I am also a member of  the Georgia Chiropractic Association (GCA). In my early years of practice, I  was very active in the GCA, holding local and state offices.

If you ask me "why did you become a chiropractor?" You might think, "Because your father was a chiropractor", but that's not true. I got into chiropractic for all the wrong reasons. When I was in high school we had a very successful basketball program. During the  last three years of high school, I lost only six games. We were rated #1 in the state of Georgia (don't ask what happened). I lived and breathed basketball. It was my whole life. I went to college on a basketball scholarship with foolish dreams that someday I would play pro basketball (don't laugh when you see how tall I am). What a joke! Please remember, I was in high school with unrealistic dreams. Well, obviously that didn't work out. Anyone with half a brain would have known that, but not me. Thank God, my brain has grown considerably since then.

While at UGA, I majored in general business. This degree is the largest in the school of business at UGA. It is the degree for those people who had no earthly idea what they wanted to do when they graduated from school. I got a job at a bank in Gainesville, GA, and I worked there for three years. The first year was fine, the second year was okay, and the third year, well I wanted to leave, but I still did not know what I wanted to do. That is when I looked at my father's business and thought,"I could do that." Isn't that a great reason for becoming a chiropractor? I couldn't think of anything else to do, so why not be a chiropractor. I went back to Chiropractic College, received my degree and started to practice. Six months into my practice, I was bored and thought, "I've got a ten year school loan I have to pay off. I can't believe I am going to have to do this for ten years." It was about this time when I began to grow up (finally). After all, I had a wife and one child at this time.

When I first graduated from Chiropractic College I looked at people like an anatomy book, not as people with important, individual lives, all being different. When I started looking at people for who they were, instead of a piece of anatomy out of my anatomy book, then life got interesting. I began to see a bigger picture about life. I also believe this is when God started working in my life. I could not recognize it at the time, but looking back, I know something had to be guiding me or I would have quit chiropractic. So, for the next 10 or 15 years I focused on helping people in pain and trying to relieve their suffering.

Nineteen ninety five and nineteen ninety six were huge growth years for me (I was 38, it was about time). As I said earlier, my father retired in 1994. With his retirement, I took over his patients. He would sometimes recommend vitamin and mineral supplements for his patients. I did very little of that at the time, so I knew I was going to have to go back and study vitamin and mineral supplements to make sure I was competent to recommend these products. In reviewing these products, I am sure what happened to me has happened to you. The more you study, the clearer the picture is suppose to be, but this was far from the truth. The more I studied supplements, the muddier the water got. You could talk to one supplement salesman, and their product was the best. Talk to another salesman, and theirs was the best. I looked at diets, and it was the same. There is a cancer diet, diabetes diet, heart disease diet, high protein diet, first place diet, carbohydrate diet, Mayo Clinic diet, low fat diet, weight watchers diet, Waydown diet, high energy diet, Atkins diet, and on and on. It got ridiculous as to which one was right? Who is the authority on what we are supposed to eat? The water got muddier and muddier. That is when I did something I should have done a long time ago. I said a prayer and asked God to help.

I listen to a lot of CD’s and cassette’s. Within the next six months to a year, people came into my life that made the water so clear and answered my questions about health. My picture about disease and health got crystal clear. Questions like; are we supposed to be healthy? What are we supposed to eat? What is our potential for health? Can we cure cancer, heart disease and diabetes? Who is the authority that can answer these questions? And many, many, more were answered.

My direction in life was once again changed, only this time my purpose in life was coming into focus. Through the years my focus had been on pain relief, but my picture for health was changing. I began to realize that true health was inside everyone and our potential for true health was tremendous. I learned that there are only two things that have the ability to heal mankind. They are God (spiritual healing) and Gods creation, your body (physical healing). All physical healing is possible when the body is placed in the right environment for an extended period of time and if the nervous system is functioning at its full potential. I once thought I was a limited practitioner treating only back pain, but I am far more than just pain relief. It is my personal opinion that the body has the potential to cure cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and most of the other so called, incurable diseases of mankind. Yes, I know that sounds a little hard for people to accept, but believe me, this country boy would not talk this way unless I had some real evidence to support my opinions, and I do. My recommendations are based around those principles that will enhance your body to heal itself.

I hope this profile will help you to get to know me a little better. I'm just a hometown boy striving to find truth, just like most everyone else, only my topic is health. If my office can be of any help in your health picture please let us know. God designed you to be healthy and happy, not sick and sad, and if you aren't, then there is a problem. I know if you practice what we recommend your health will improve. I consider myself one of the luckiest and blessed people. I am 54 and am really loving what I do. I have been in practice 22 years and looking forward to the next 20. I hope you can say the same for what you do. We would love to service your health needs and get you on the path to wellness, please give us a call.
